America 250 Songwriter's Competition (AUDITIONS OPEN)
In celebration of the 250th year of The United States of America's existence, we would like to honor the musicians who wrote timeless, patriotic, American music such as Francis Scott Key's 'Star-Spangled Banner' or even Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the USA.'
The City of Portland is hoping to shine a new light on upcoming artists in the Portland area; while also highlighting the country we call home, and all the wonderful things about it- by holding a songwriting competition featuring amateur songwriters from our community.
The winner will receive the chance to be the opening act for the STRAWBERRY JAM at the 2026 Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival!
CONTESTANT REQUIREMENTS:
Contestants must be amateur - live within 25 mile-radius of Portland - must submit video recording of original song - any genre of music but no profanity or vulgarity permitted in lyrics - one song only - 3 minute-limit – limited to one accompaniment each - must be available on the appointed dates of contest - and the winner must be available to sing their song to open the Strawberry Festival concert.
AUDITION TAPE REQUIREMENTS:
Please film a 30 second to 1-minute-long snippet of your ORIGINAL SONG in a place with no distracting noises or echoes.
Upload your original song snippet to youtube.com with the title "(Your Name & Name of Your Song) - AMERICA 250 SONGWRITER COMPETITION".
Then COPY & PASTE the link to your video on the audition form.
Entries are limited to 1 per person. Please do not upload the full song.
You will be contacted if you move on to the next round of the competition.
NO GRAPHIC LANGUAGE. This is part of a family friendly event, so songs with foul language will not advance.
