Calling all Portland cooks to contribute to the Celebrate America 250 recipe book being compiled for our nation's 250th commemoration in 2026.
We want to collect old recipes that have been handed down by previous generations and especially those with a connection to Portland's history.
Please read all of the information below before submitting your recipe.
Recipes will be categorized as follows:
-All Things Strawberry
Breads (rolls, biscuits, cornbread, fruit/dessert bread, doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, etc.)
-Casseroles/ Vegetables
-Meats/Main Dishes (including casseroles using meat)
-Miscellaneous (appetizers, drinks, jams/jellies, snacks, etc.)
-Salads
-Soups/Stews
Symbols and abbreviations for measurements MUST adhere to the following and be used consistently throughout.
Cup = c.
Dozen = doz.
Tablespoon = tblsp.
Teaspoon = tsp.
Ounce = oz.
Package = pkg.
Pound = ib.
Quart = qt.
Pint = pt.
Gallon = gal.
Quantities must be specified. Package and can size must be specified. Example: 16 oz. can, 12 oz. pkg., 1lb. block etc.)
Recipes can be submitted in your own name or 'in memory' or 'in honor' of another person. Ideally, recipes submitted will be from Portland and surrounding communities.
Recipes from a past U.S. President, Tennessee Governor, Senator or Legislator will be used as part of the America 250 tribute.
