If you reside within the city limits and are wanting to conduct any type of outdoor burning, then you must call the Fire Department first at 615-325-3434 to have your information logged down.  The only materials that can be burned are vegetation, wood not chemically treated, cardboard, and paper.  IT IS ILLEGAL TO BURN ANY ITEMS PETROLEUM BASED (i.e. but not limited to: plastics, shingles, tires, vinyl siding, carpet, furniture) AND USE OF GASOLINE, DIESEL, OIL(S), OR KEROSENE TO START A FIRE.  ALL ARE SUBJECT TO PROSECUTION.

What you need to know to burn outdoors:

  • water source close by
  • garden hose at the area you are burning
  • remain at the burn site till the fire is out
  • have the house phone or cell phone handy in case the fire gets out of control
  • we will not allow burning if the wind is blowing
