The Wastewater Treatment Plant is located on Morningside Dr. The WWTP is responsible for treating the sewer demands for the City of Portland. Wastewater comes from everyday activities such as flushing the toilet, taking a shower, using a washing machine and washing dishes. The WWTP removes 90% of the domestic pollutants.
On an average day the plant treats 1.4 million gallons per day, although it is designed to treat 1.9 million gallon. We have a State approved Pretreatment Program in place. The pretreatment is responsible for overseeing all the permitted industries and make sure threat nothing will be discharged from their facility that could adversely affect our plant. We also have a Grease Management Program for any food prep business. The Grease management program regulates the oil and grease that is discharged into the wastewater collection system. By controlling the grease and oil that is release into the line it will prevent blockages in the lines. The WWTP is a class 4 SBR system. A Sequencing batch reactor (SBR) is the primary process used for the treatment of the wastewater. SBR reactors treat sewerage both domestic and Industrial. We perform numerous in house laboratory tests to insure we stay within regulations
